PIONEER TAFFY
2 C sugar
1 1/2 C water
1 C white corn syrup
1 tsp salt
2 tsp glycerin
1 tsp vanilla
2 Tbsp butter
Place sugar, water, corn syrup, salt and glycerin in sauce pan. Bring to boil over medium heat. CANDY THERMOMETER must reach 258 degrees (takes about 35-40 minutes). If you overcook it'll be too hard, if you undercook it'll be a sticky mess.
When it reaches temperature, take off heat and pour in vanilla and butter. Mix in well.
Butter a large cookie sheet and pour taffy onto it. Let cool about 5 mins or until cool enough to handle with hands.
Pinch taffy into 12 separate pieces.
When cool enough start pulling the taffy. Stretch it out and fold back together repeatedly until a very white color.
Shape as desired and let set on wax paper.
